Planting Party in Lowndes Park
At the end of October, Chesham in Bloom joined with volunteers from the Friends of Lowndes Park and Love Lowndes to plant 1300 spring bulbs in the newly-created playground beds. It was a sociable and fun event.
In March, some of our group travelled to Stony Stratford to meet with the dedicated and fantastically welcoming volunteers from Stony in Bloom. We had reached out to them as we were inspired by their floral displays and Community Garden at the Thames and Chilterns in Bloom award ceremony in September. The visit did not disappoint! Our volunteers returned enthused with fresh ideas. A return visit to Chesham is planned for later this year, and new connections have been formed.

Also in March, we teamed up with volunteers from Chesham Environmental Group for the “Chesham Big Litter Pick” which is part of Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British Spring Clean campaign. We met in front of Chesham Library where we were given litter pickers and hoops and agreed the routes we would walk. We were part of a large group of 34 volunteers including then Town Mayor, Cllr Justine Fulford.

New Sunday Working Party
Our volunteers did not relax over the May bank holiday. Whilst some were litter- picking to support the Chesham Fringe Festival event, others helped out at a plant sale that was kindly organised by the Chesham Vale Gardeners’ Society. Plants grown on by gardeners from various local groups as well as some taken from the tiered planters were potted up and sold, making an incredible profit of £1033. Volunteers also successfully recruited two new members to the team.
Fundraising Plant Sale
We enlisted the support of Chesham Environmental Group who provided all the equipment for a town centre litter pick at the beginning of July as we prepared for the judging tour. Over 20 volunteers turned out on a very hot day, including Mayor Parveiz Aslam MBE.
