Practical Support
We are very fortunate to have a high profile within Chesham. Our volunteers wear high-visibility jackets when working around town, which helps to ensure they stand out. They regularly receive words of encouragement and thanks, both in person and on social media.
We benefit from practical support, whether that is in the form of residents volunteering to help water a planter in the drier months, or the kind staff at Circle 7 allowing us to store our compost on their premises and use their pallet truck when we need to move a planter. We were delighted when two refugees from the Chagos Islands volunteered to help us paint all our planters. They spent 5 months helping our group before they were relocated, but have stayed in touch and recently sent us a message of support on Facebook. We also have some dedicated residents who have maintained their street signs, originally planted up by one of our volunteers in spring 2025, to a very high standard.

Financial Support
Even though we have reduced our outgoings by growing from seed and buying fewer annuals, we still spend around £2000 a year on plants, bulbs and equipment. We are therefore immensely grateful to all the local businesses, groups and individuals who generously sponsor us, ensuring that we can continue to cover our costs. There are too many to name individually, however a few examples are provided on this page.
In May, some of our team visited Root and Branch Change’s plant nursery on the outskirts of Chesham at the kind invitation of its Chairman, Paul. Root and Branch Change is a local charity that helps children and families in South Africa. All the profits from the plant nursery go towards Root and Branch Change's charity work. Paul, wearing purple in the photo on the left, generously donated plants to the value of £300.
A collection by the Gentle Exercise Class at the White Hill Centre raised £65. Our volunteer Phil was presented with the cheque.
The Chesham Vale Gardeners' Society gave us a cheque for £300, while members of local club Welcome to Running, which two Bloomers are members of, donated £51.87 in exchange for vegetables grown by our volunteer, allotmenteer and runner Chris.
In late 2025, we took part in a customer vote for Tesco’s ‘Stronger Starts’ (blue token) scheme, receiving £500.
